Regenerative & Functional Medicine

PRP, stem cell–based care concepts, and light‑based therapies often provide a safe and less invasive option in the healing process for some injuries.

Regenerative and functional medicine approaches may be considered as part of a personalized, non-surgical plan for certain musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. Depending on your diagnosis, goals, medical history and response to conventional care, Dr. Soma may suggest options such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), selected orthobiologic treatment with stem cells, and light-based therapies alongside physical therapy, guided exercise, activity modification, and any other care to help guide treatment and recovery.

Candidacy depends on the specific tissue involved, the severity and duration of symptoms, imaging findings when needed, overall health, and prior treatment history.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

AUTOLOGOUS TREATMENT

PRP is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The blood is processed to concentrate platelets—blood components involved in normal tissue repair—and the resulting preparation is injected into the targeted area, such as a tendon, ligament, muscle, or joint, using sterile technique and, when appropriate, ultrasound imaging guidance.

PRP may be offered for selected tendon, ligament, joint, and sports-related conditions when Dr. Soma determines it is appropriate. Individual patient factors must be considered, and results do vary for each patient/injury.

Cell-Based and Biologic Therapies

ORTHOBIOLOGICS

In select circumstances, Dr. Soma may discuss certain biologically derived products intended to support the body’s healing environment as one component of a comprehensive, non-surgical treatment plan.

Not every patient or condition is a candidate, and no biologic treatment should be presented as a cure. A thorough evaluation is essential to determine whether treatment is reasonable and whether established alternatives may be more appropriate. Dr. Soma will discuss risks, costs, and expected recovery with patients before treatment is applied.

Light Laser Therapy

PHOTOBIOMODULATION

CureWave Laser treatment may be used as a noninvasive addition to help manage localized pain and inflammation. When recommended, these treatments are typically integrated with a broader care plan that may include regenerative medicines, therapeutic exercise, activity changes, and other orthopedic treatments.

Light based laser therapies, or photobiomodulation, are not intended to replace a full evaluation, physical therapy when indicated, or treatment of structural injuries that need other forms of care. Individual response varies, and treatment recommendations are based on the nature of each condition and your clinical progress.
